Wizards sign Arnaud and Jewsbury to extensions

January 21, 2009

The Kansas City Wizards announced that midfielders Davy Arnaud and Jack Jewsbury have signed new four-year contracts. Per League and club policy, financial details of the contracts were not disclosed.

"Davy Arnaud and Jack Jewsbury are two high-quality individuals and important players for our team," said Kansas City technical director Peter Vermes. "The signing of both players to long-term contracts helps to solidify their roles within the team. They both started their careers here, and we're happy that they will continue to wear Kansas City Wizards blue for years to come."

Arnaud won the team golden boot in 2008 with seven goals and three assists. He missed six games early in the season due to offseason microfracture surgery, but was a factor in the Wizards late run that qualified the team for the playoffs. Jewsbury added three goals and a career-high seven assists in 29 games (all starts). He played as a right-sided midfielder and right back before settling into a central holding midfield role late in the year.

"I'm excited to stay here with Kansas City," Arnaud said. "The organization is building a great thing here. I'm glad the club has the faith in me to offer a long term contract and let me take part in the future of the team. Hopefully we will bring another championship to Wizards fans soon."
