VETERAN STRIKER TO TRAVEL

Larsson named in Sweden squad for tour of USA

December 17, 2008

Henrik Larsson has been named in the Sweden squad for a two-match tour of the United States next month.

Coach Lars Lagerback included the 37-year-old striker in his 22-man squad for games against the United States and Mexico.

However, the Swedish media is reporting that Larsson is yet to accept the call-up as he weighs his future. Larsson's contract with Helsingborg expired at the end of the Swedish season, and the former Celtic and Barcelona man could now retire after rejecting overtures from Barclays Premier League clubs.

Lagerback's squad is dominated by domestically-based players, and includes nine who are uncapped.

While Larsson has been capped 102 times, Malmo's Daniel Andersson (70) and Brondby's Samuel Holmen (12) are the only other two players in Lagerback's squad with more than 10 appearances behind them.

Sweden face the United States in Los Angeles on January 24 and Mexico four days later in Oakland.

Squad: John Alvbage (Orebro), Eddie Gustafsson (Lyn); Patrik Anttonen (Orebro), Rasmus Bengtsson (Trelleborg), Mattias Bjarsmyr (IFK Goteborg), Adam Johansson (IFK Goteborg), Markus Jonsson (AIK), Marcus Lindberg (Kalmar), Max von Schlebrugge (Brondby); Daniel Andersson (Malmo), Martin Ericsson (Elfsborg), Rasmus Elm (Kalmar), Samuel Holmen (Brondby), Andreas Johansson (Halmstad), Andreas Dahl (Nordsjaelland), Andreas Landgren (Helsingborg); Patrik Ingelsten (Kalmar), Gustav Svensson (IFK Goteborg), Ola Toivonen (Malmo), Pontus Wernbloom (IFK Goteborg), Henrik Larsson (Helsingborg), Mikael Dahlberg (Djurgarden).
