San Lorenzo close gap on Boca in Apertura
San Lorenzo reduced the gap behind Apertura leaders Boca Juniors to two points with a 4-1 win in their resumed match with arch-rivals Huracan.
Heavy rain had forced the game to be postponed after 16 minutes on Saturday with officials deciding the game should resume from that point today - with two 37-minute halves played.
That meant Huracan began today's action with a 1-0 lead thanks to Paolo Goltz's 10th-minute strike, although they were also a man down after Javier Pastore's dismissal on Saturday.
That disadvantage proved crucial as Huracan were over-run in the second half when they conceded four times.
Aureliano Torres equalised for San Lorenzo with a header three minutes after the interval before Cristian Chavez came off the bench to put them ahead 22 minutes before the end.
Former Huracan striker Nestor Andres Silvera then scored a brace to seal the victory and lift San Lorenzo up to 33 points and level with Tigre in second place.
Torres admitted his side had to be patient to secure the result, saying: "It is a very important win to increase our spirit. We were patient and goals came.
"Now we must beat Independiente on Sunday and hope that Boca slip up against Gimnasia La Plata."
Defeat for Huracan means they are still yet to win under new boss Angel Cappa, who arrived at the club in early November, and their manager admitted their hopes of ending that run in today's game were lost once San Lorenzo equalised.
"San Lorenzo played better in the second half. I congratulate them," he said. "As soon as they equalised the game, our chances disappeared."
