Sao Paulo move closer to retaining Brazilian title
SAO PAULO, November 3 (Campeonato Brasileiro) - Sao Paulo took the lead in the Campeonato Brasileiro with a 3-0 win over Internacional and move closer to retaining the title.
Borges opened the scoring in the 29th minute before Dagoberto increased the lead seven minutes into the second half for Muricy Ramalho's side. Hugo secured the victory with a header alter the ball first hit the crossbar.
"Sao Paulo are heading the right direction," said Dagoberto. "The team are doing the best. We achieved what we needed and we battled as warriors."
Sao Paulo are top with 62 points while Palmeiras climbed up to second in the table thanks to a 2-1 win at Santos.
Leo Lima struck in the last minute for Vanderlei Luxemburgo's side after Kleber had put Palmeiras ahead early before an own goal by goalkeeper Bruno levelled the scores.
Ten-man Gremio dropped to third after they drew 1-1 with Figueirense in Porto Alegre.
The visitors went ahead thanks to a seventh-minute goal by Marquinho before Reinaldo equalised for Gremio seconds before half-time. Defender Felipe was sent-off in the second half.
Vasco da Gama celebrated a 1-0 win at Fluminense at the Estadio Maracana with Wagner Diniz scoring the winner in the 72nd minute.
Eighth-placed Goias hammered Cruzeiro 3-0 at the Estadio Serra Dourada.
Paulo Baier netted a brace for the Helio dos Anjos' side and Henrique added another.
Finally, a brace by Leandro Almeida gave Atletico Mineiro a 2-1 win over Botafogo while Atletico Paranaense left the relegation zone after Rafael Moura netted an injury-time winner to beat Sport 1-0.
