August 17, 2008

Kawasaki Frontale slipped off the pace at the top of the J. League on Sunday after being held to a 2-2 draw by Jubilo Iwata.

Ryoichi Maeda opened the scoring for Jubilo Iwata after 13 minutes at the Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium.

Hiroyuki Taniguchi equalised for the home side three minutes before the hour mark, but Kota Ueda regained the lead for the visitors just a minute later.

Chong Tese secured the home side a point after netting another equaliser with 26 minutes remaining as fifth-placed Kawasaki Frontale slipped four points adrift of leaders Kashima Antlers, who beat Tokyo Verdy 4-1 on Saturday.

At the Sapporo Dome, Fernandinho struck in the last minute to hand Kyoto Sanga a 2-1 win at bottom club Consadole Sapporo.

The home side had taken an 18th minute lead through Davi, but after Daigo Watanabe equalised for the visitors four minutes after the break, Fernandinho grabbed all three points with a dramatic late winner.

Also on Sunday, Yokohama F Marinos earned a 1-1 draw at Shimizu S-Pulse.
