Torn ACL may mean season's end for Chivas' Zotinca

March 19, 2008

CARSON, Calif. -- Chivas USA defender Alex Zotinca could miss the MLS season after partially tearing his right anterior cruciate ligament in an exhibition match.

The tear was diagnosed after an MRI late last week, and Zotinca will undergo reconstructive surgery next week, the team said Wednesday.

He is expected to miss at least six months. He was hurt March 5 against D.C. United in Cibolo, Texas.

Zotinca started 20 of 22 games and had three assists in his first season for Chivas USA last year.

Chivas USA opens the regular season March 29.
