MADRID, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Deportivo Coruna's Uruguayan international goalkeeper Gustavo Munua will not have to go to jail despite being handed a six-month prison sentence by a Spanish judge for an attack on team mate Dudu Aouate.
Although a local judge found Munua guilty of aggression the
player will not have to serve the sentence because he has not
had any previous offences. Instead he will have to pay a fine of
3,600 euros ($5,262).
Munua punched Aouate in the face during a dispute in the
changing room earlier this month and the Israel keeper required
several stitches around his left eye.
The day before the incident, Aouate had complained at a news
conference about losing his place as first-choice keeper to
Munua.
A local prosecutor opened an investigation into the incident
after it came to light and statements were taken from both
goalkeepers.
Depor coach Miguel Angel Lotina dropped both players from
the side, told them to resolve their differences and ordered
them to apologise to team mates and the club's fans for their
behaviour.
The two players continue to train at separate times of the
day at the Depor training base in Abegondo.
