Everton striker Victor Anichebe is a surprise omission from Nigeria's African Cup of Nations squad - a move which is likely to continue the debate over his international future.
The 19-year-old - who also qualifies to play for England - was expected to be
in the 31-man squad who will begin training in Spain from January 4 for the
pan-African tournament in Ghana later in the month.
Anichebe has played for England's Under-19s but has since pledged his loyalty
to Nigeria, only to pull out of several squads, including that named by manager
Berti Vogts for last month's friendly against Australia in London.
Several other British-based players have made the squad. Everton team-mates
Joseph Yobo and Aiyegbeni Yakubu, Portsmouth duo Kanu and John Utaka, John Obi
Mikel of Chelsea, Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins, Sunderland's Dickson Etuhu
and Seyi Olofinjana of Wolves will all travel to Spain.
