MADRID, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Villarreal have reached an agreement with Argentina midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme for him to join Boca Juniors, the Primera Liga club said in a statement on Monday.
Villarreal directors Jose Manuel Llaneza and Miguel Perez
will meet with the Argentine club in Buenos Aires on Wednesday
to complete the transfer.
The 29-year-old fell out with Villarreal and their Chilean
coach Manuel Pellegrini midway through last season and was
loaned to his former club Boca for the second part of the
campaign.
He inspired them to victory in the Libertadores Cup but
returned to Villarreal after a possible move to Atletico Madrid
fell through in August, and has not played for the Primera Liga
side this season.
Despite not playing in Spain he has produced some inspired
performances for Argentina in their World Cup qualifiers, and
scored four goals.
Boca have made no secret of their desire to land the
mercurial playmaker, but his high wages and outstanding contract
at Villarreal have been a stumbling block.
Villarreal have made an impressive start to their season
without him, and lie second in the standings one point behind
leaders Real Madrid.
