D.C. United's Burch, Olsen recovering from surgeries

November 14, 2007

WASHINGTON -- D.C. United defender Marc Burch had surgery on his left knee Thursday, and midfielder Ben Olsen is recovering from a Monday operation on his ankle.

United said both players expected to be ready for the start of the 2008 preseason.

Burch played in 18 games for United after he was acquired in a trade with the Columbus Crew in April. Olsen scored a career-high seven goals and had seven assists this year.

"These procedures were necessary as a result of wear and tear on the players' bodies," general manager Dave Kasper said. "We're pleased that both surgeries were a success and we look forward to Benny and Marc continuing their high-level play in 2008."
