Israel keeper tries to allay England's fears

October 19, 2007

Israel goalkeeper Dudu Aouate insists national pride will drive his team to a result against Russia -and save England's Euro 2008 dream.

Following the dismal defeat suffered by Steve McClaren's men in Moscow on Wednesday, the Israelis must take at least a point from their clash with the Russians on November 17 to give England any real chance of qualifying for next summer's finals.

And Aouate, who starred as his country claimed a point in Russia earlier in the campaign, believes they can do just that.

'The English fans can rest assured we're going to give everything to win. England can count on our 100% commitment,' the 30-year-old said in The Sun.

'I like England a lot, I like the Premier League - but we're going to do this for ourselves. We want to win for our fans and country.

'It's a question of national pride. If by winning we can help England, then great.'

The Deportivo keeper admits he has been stunned by England's below-par qualifying performances - and insists McClaren must shoulder the blame.

'I am stunned by England's situation. If Israel had just two players from their squad we would be top,' Aouate claimed.

'There are players who play for Liverpool and Manchester United, the world's best clubs.

'They are the ones on the pitch but if England fail to reach Euro 2008 the manager has the ultimate responsibility.'
