Reading manager Steve Coppell has indicated he could try to bring midfielder Steve Sidwell back to the club on loan when the transfer window reopens in January.
Jose Mourinho took the 24-year-old to Chelsea in the summer on a free
transfer, but the Portuguese has now been replaced by Avram Grant and Sidwell
was not in the 16-man squad at Manchester United yesterday.
Coppell said: 'I would fully anticipate that we will supplement the squad in
January.
'I want good players and Siddy is a good player. He's one of many I would
love to bring here.'
The former Arsenal youth team star who joined Chelsea saying he knew it would
be tough to break into the first team with all their stars, has made just two
starts - one against Reading - and one substitute appearance for the Blues.
And Coppell told the
Reading Evening Post: 'It's ironic that he is not
getting a game there when we very much wanted him to have games here.'
Sidwell turned down what was described as the best new contract offer ever
made to a Reading player to join the Blues and cited Mourinho as one of the
biggest reasons for his decision.
