D.C. United to honor Virginia Tech with special jerseys
WASHINGTON -- D.C. United will wear maroon jerseys with a Virginia Tech emblem during their game Saturday at the Columbus Crew to honor the victims of the shooting rampage at the university.
United's game-worn jerseys then will be auctioned next week, with proceeds going to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.
"With several staff members intimately involved with the university, and given the close proximity of the Virginia Tech campus to Washington, D.C., we felt acutely motivated to act in support of this cause," United executive vice president Stephen Zack said.
