A Tottenham fan who ran onto the pitch after the FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Chelsea and tried to punch Frank Lampard was today banned from football matches for three years.
Timothy John Lawrence Smith, 18, was arrested after running on to the field at
the end of the game on March 19 and lashing out at the Chelsea midfielder.
He pleaded guilty at Haringey Magistrates' Court, north London, today to
encroaching onto the pitch.
He was fined £300 and ordered to pay another £50 in costs on top of the ban.
The order means he cannot attend any regulated matches in England or Wales and
will have to report to a police station to surrender his passport before
overseas matches.
Smith, a junior architect, of Ruscombe Gardens, Slough, Berkshire, has already
been banned for life from White Hart Lane by the club.
Simon Barritt, 28, from Chatham, Kent, who was also charged with encroaching
onto the pitch at the match, received an identical ban and £300 fine in court
today.
The incident involving Smith, which was captured on television, happened as
Chelsea celebrated their 2-1 win over Spurs at White Hart Lane.
