Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich claims there is 'a personality clash' between England boss Steve McClaren and former national team captain David Beckham - and has urged McClaren to pick the Real Madrid star.
Beckham has not featured in any of McClaren's squads since he succeeded
Sven-Goran Eriksson as manager, and chose not to select him for the Euro 2008
qualifiers against Macedonia and Croatia despite injuries to a number of
midfield regulars.
Bosnich, who played for Manchester United when McClaren was assistant to Sir
Alex Ferguson and Beckham was the Red Devils' star on the right of midfield,
insists the reason for snubbing Beckham has nothing to do with football.
The Australian told
talkSPORT: 'From my days at Manchester United I know
there is a personality clash between Steve McClaren and David Beckham and it's
more to do with Steve McClaren.
'At the end of the day, he is the England manager and he has got to do the
best for England.
'He should put that aside, and (Beckham) should have been involved. Six
months ago he was captain of a team that was tipped to lift the World Cup and
now he is not even getting in the side.
'Alex Ferguson always said that you don't have to like all your players that
you've got under you. There is a midfield crisis and he is still one of the best
midfielders in the world and he is not even mentioned about getting picked, and
that's not right.'
