Dutch international Mathijsen joins Hamburg

AMSTERDAM, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Dutch international defender Joris Mathijsen has signed a four-year contract with Hamburg SV, his Dutch club AZ Alkmaar said on Thursday.

Mathijsen, who joined Alkmaar in 2004 after a six-year spell at Willem II Tilburg, has been capped 12 times, including three appearances at the 2006 World Cup finals.

According to media reports Alkmaar will receive €10 million for the 26-year-old.

Hamburg, who qualified for the Champions League group stage on Tuesday, sold Dutch international defender Khalid Boulahrouz to English champions Chelsea on Monday.
