Premiership new-boys Reading look set to rival Middlesbrough for the signing of USA international defender Oguchi Onyewu.
The Royals, who already have American duo Marcus Hahnemann and Bobby Convey in their squad, have reportedly been tracking the Standard Liege centre-back for months.
First-team coach Kevin Dillon recently returned from the States where he watched Onyewu and his team-mates in three World Cup warm-up games, and he admits a trio of players have caught his eye.
He told The Chronicle: 'They (USA) really impressed me.
'I went over to monitor three of their players. One of them has since moved on to another club but the two others are more established at their clubs. Now they've got to decide what they want to do.
'The plan is to have a meeting when I get back on Monday and decide where we go from here.'
