I'm 50-50 for World Cup place, says Bent

Charlton striker Darren Bent is hoping a strong finish to the season can secure a place in the England World Cup squad.

Bent has forced himself into Sven-Goran Eriksson's reckoning by scoring 21 goals for the Addicks this season following a summer move from Ipswich.

The 22-year-old made his international debut in a March friendly against Uruguay at Anfield but still has work to do to secure a trip to Germany.

Bent told Sky Sports News: 'I've got to keep doing my best for Charlton and hopefully I will be there.

'It would cap a fantastic season for me. It has been the best season of my career.'

Bent is aware he is not the only striker vying for a striking place behind the likes of Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and probably Peter Crouch.

'I have scored a lot of goals but a lot of other players can say they have been,' Bent added.

'I'm 50-50. Part of me believes I will and part doesn't. I've just got to keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully I will be there.

'A lot of people have thrown in other names, there are a few names in the balance.

'I'm not really concentrating on that, I've still got three games left in the Premier League.'
