October 31, 2005

LISBON, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Unfancied Nacional Madeira won 2-0 at promoted Estrela Amadora on Sunday to keep up the pressure on Portuguese Premier League leaders Braga.

The victory moved the Madeira Island team up to joint second alongside Porto, who were held to a goalless draw by Vitoria Setubal on Saturday.

Nacional Madeira and Porto have 18 points from nine games, two points behind unbeaten Braga who play hosts to Belenenses on Monday.

Nacional, this season's surprise packages, opened the scoring through Andre Pinto following a goalmouth scramble in the 42nd minute.

Brazilian midfielder Alexandre Goulart sealed their fifth league victory of the campaign with a close-range finish on 75 minutes.

Boavista came back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 at home to fifth-placed Sporting.

The visitors looked to be in control after goals from debutant winger Nani and Brazilian striker Liedson.

Boavista, in sixth position, pulled one back two minutes after the break with a shot from playmaker Joao Pinto.

Brazilian striker William Souza then headed the equaliser from close range in the 56th minute.

Benfica drew 1-1 at promoted Naval on Saturday to stay fourth, one point behind Porto and Nacional Madeira, and three adrift of Braga.
