Championship leaders QPR lost in the league for the first time since New Year's Day as they slid to a 2-0 defeat at play-off chasing Millwall.
Millwall's first goal came just after the hour mark as Tamika Mkandawire's pass found Steve Morison, who slid past Paddy Kenny from the edge of the box.
Danny Shittu was then sent off for the visitors after fouling Morison, who went on to put the ball in the net but the referee had already awarded a penalty which was duly converted by Liam Trotter.
Norwich recovered from a disappointing draw at home to relegation-threatened Preston to record an impressive 3-2 win at Leicester.
The diminutive Wesley Hoolahan headed the Canaries in from after 20 minutes before a quick response from the home side saw Richie Wellens equalise only two minutes later. Norwich were back in front four minutes into the second half as Grant Holt scored his 17th of the season from the penalty spot after the busy Hoolahan was brought down by Matt Oakley.
Holt's strike partner Aaron Wilbraham then gave Norwich the security of a two-goal cushion with a neat finish. Leicester rallied late on and pulled the score back to 3-2 with a last minute Paul Gallagher striker.
Leeds were the only other team in the top six to win after a comfortable 2-1 win over Preston at Deepdale.
Goals from Neil Kilkenny and Billy Paynter were enough for Leeds as they strengthened their play-off chances and push Preston closer to relegation. Iain Hume's scored a late consolation for the home side who are now ten points adrift of safety.
Danny Graham's late goal was enough to earn a creditable 1-1 draw for Watford against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium. Stephen Dobbie had given Swansea a first-half lead after putting the finishing touch to a fantastic build-up.
Cardiff also failed to make up ground on the leaders as they lost 1-0 to relegation threatened Crystal Palace. Dougie Freedman's men scored a late winner through Fulham loanee Kagisho Dikgacoi.
Nottingham Forest were another promotion-chasing side beaten by a team at the wrong end of the table, going down 2-1 to Sheffield United, who recorded their first win under Micky Adams.
Dele Adebola had given Forest the lead and Richard Cresswell missed a penalty for Sheffield United before goals from Sam Vokes and Matthew Lowton gave the Blades an invaluable three points.
The wins for Crystal Palace and Sheffield United put more pressure on Scunthorpe, who went down 2-1 at Barnsley. Blackpool loanee Marlon Harewood scored twice on his full home debut for Barnsley before Michael Collins late consolation for United.

Both Burnley and Reading kept their play-of hopes alive with impressive away victories at Hull and Ipswich respectively. Burnley won 1-0 after an early strike from new loan signing Nathan Delfouneso as Reading secured a relatively comfortable 3-1 win at Ipswich. The Royals efforts came from Shane Long, Ian Harte and Noel Hunt, with Connor Wickham replying for the hosts.
Bristol City came out on top in a mid-table clash against Portsmouth as Albert Adomah and a Greg Halford own goal gave them a 2-1 win with Dave Kitson scoring in injury time for the visitors.
Doncaster and Coventry played out a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat, with James Hayter's late goal cancelling out Freddie Eastwood's opener.
