Distin has just 12 months to run on his current deal and manager David Moyes is eager to keep hold of the 33-year-old Frenchman.

Everton signed Distin from Portsmouth in a £5 million deal in August 2009 and the centre-back has made over 72 appearances for the Toffees - playing every minute of every game this season.

"A new deal is something we will look at in the summer," Moyes confirmed. "Sylvain has played all the games, he trains all the time and that is a big thing. He has been an excellent signing."

Distin won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008 before joining Everton as replacement for Joleon Lescott, who was sold to Manchester City for £24 million.
