Internacional hunt down Jaguares

February 24, 2011

Defending Copa Libertadores champions Internacional hammered Mexico's Jaguares 4-0 to go top of Group Six in Brazil.

A brace by Argentina midfielder Mario Bolatti helped Celso Roth's Inter claim a comfortable win as they seek to retain their title.

Bolatti put Inter ahead in the 20th minute from a corner while he doubled the lead with a header just before half-time.

In the 67th minute, a Fernando Cavenaghi shot hit the post and Leandro Damiao tapped home the rebound to make it 3-0 before Oscar rounded off the win with a shot from distance.

Jaguares' poor day was compounded when midfielder Jorge Rodriguez was sent off in injury time for hitting Oscar.

Argentinian league champions Estudiantes secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Tolima of Colombia.

Pablo Barrientos netted the winner with a free-kick in the 44th minute as Estudiantes recovered from the 5-0 away defeat to Brazil's Cruzeiro in their first match.

"Tonight I saw a little bit of what I want from the team. We always wanted to win the match. Beyond the win, I liked the intensity the team played with,'' said Estudiantes boss Eduardo Berizzo.

Elsewhere, a Carlos Zegarra goal in the 26th minute gave Peru's Leon de Huanuco a 1-0 home win over Bolivian giants Oriente Petrolero, their first victory of their maiden Copa Libertadores campaign.

Finally, in Rio de Janeiro, hosts Fluminense and Uruguayan giants Nacional played out a goalless draw in Group Three.
