Five-star Celtic extend lead

February 19, 2012

Gary Hooper's double helped Celtic go 17 points clear of administration-hit Rangers at the top of the Scottish Bank Premier League as Neil Lennon's men hammered Hibernian 5-0 at Easter Road.

• Ten-man Rangers suffer further

Goals from Anthony Stokes and the former Scunthorpe striker gave the impressive visitors a commanding interval lead.

Hoops defender Charlie Mulgrew fired in a free-kick just after the break and Hooper grabbed his second before substitute Ki Sung-yueng, on for Victor Wanyama, made it five to extend the Parkhead side's winning domestic run to 18 games.

Aberdeen extended their unbeaten run to ten matches with a goalless draw against St Johnstone in the Scottish Premier League.

Home midfielder Fraser Fyvie headed wide from a Ryan Jack cross in the best chance of the first half, while visiting striker Francisco Sandaza fired over from the edge of the area after 58 minutes when he really should have netted his 15th goal of the season.

Apart from that, chances were few and far between during a fairly low-key encounter at Pittodrie with a share of the spoils probably a fair result.
