Gonzalez, 31, left Porto for Marseille in 2009 and helped the club to success in Ligue 1 in 2010 and the Coupe de la Ligue in 2010 and 2011, but he has been linked with an exit since the summer.

The Argentina international has struggled for form in the current campaign, with two goals in his 19 appearances, and is now due to head back to Portugal.

A statement on Marseille's official website read: "Marseille and Porto have reached an agreement in principle for the final transfer of Argentinian midfielder Lucho Gonzalez to the Portuguese club. This transfer will be formalised in the coming hours."
