Promises to be one of the stars of the tournament.
A teenage prodigy with Red Star Belgrade, Stankovic signed an eight-year deal with Lazio, joining compatriot Sinisa Mihajlovic, after France 98, where he had made quite an impression.
He had became one of the most sought-after young players in Europe after hitting 29 goals in 85 games and winning a league title with Red Star.
He also hit the headlines on his international debut in 1998, scoring twice against South Korea.
Anonymous contribution led to his first-half substitution against Slovenia - a performance that reflected a tournament of little impact by the midfielder.
