He made his international debut at the end of 1996 in a 3-2 victory away to Argentina. He played all four matches at France 98 and earned a lucrative move from Partizan Belgrade to Porto, though he soon moved on to PSV Eindhoven.
Commanding in the penalty area, Kralj conceded just four goals in the Euro 2000 qualifying matches, but was helpless as Slovenia struck up their three-goal lead in the amazing Group C opener. Some solid punches and blocks stopped the minnows getting further out of reach.
