Patrik Anderson

Position:
Defender
Patrik Andersson

(AlexLivesey/Allsport)

Shirt No: 3
Age: 28
Caps: 79
Goals: 2
Club: Bayern Munich (Germany)

Profile:

Will miss Sweden's match against Italy after being sent-off for two bookable offences. Cannot be proud of the challenge on Goor that led to his early bath. Was made to look sluggish by the pace and guile of the Belgium attack.

Vastly experienced centre-back who has been at the core of the Swedish defence since debuting against Australia in 1992.

After a trial at Norwich City, spent a disappointing spell with Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League in the 1992-93 season, and following a successful six year stay at Borussia Moenchengladbach, joined Bayern Munich last year.

His first-team chances were initially limited but has become a regular since the departure of Lothar Matthaus. Also capable of filling the sweeper role, Anderson is a fine passer with a sound tactical brain.
