Typical pace and industry in the opening match and his running troubled the Belgium defence. Could not help Sweden get a share of the spoils though and his efforts went unrewarded. This was largely the case in the second match against Turkey, and he rather blotted his copybook with a couple of theatrical dives. Missed an excellent chance to turn the game against Italy in Sweden's favour. A starring role in Sweden's 2-1 win against England in qualifying persuaded Arsene Wenger to bring him to Arsenal in September 1998. He scored less than five minutes into his Highbury debut, against Manchester United no less, and despite a largely frustrating first term he emerged as a star of the Arsenal midfield in the 1999/2000 season. Very much a box-to-box player, he has great stamina and a terrific eye for goal.
