Part of the doomed Atletico Madrid squad who achieved the unprecedented feat of relegation, Valeron is a skilful playmaker who has been a useful foil to the free-scoring Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Signed from Mallorca, having started his career at Las Palmas, his form with Atletico has pushed him into the international reckoning.
Another late developer, he made his debut against Italy in November 1998.
Has not really flourished in Spain's Group B matches.
