The experienced Perez is another player who goes into the tournament after being relegated with his club side. The Real Betis forward staked his claim by scoring against Italy in March but his aerial power and ball skills have never quite won him a regular spot with the international side. However, he is a veteran of Euro 96 and the last, disastrous World Cup campaign. Always liable to find the back of the net, he can be quite an asset. Made minimal impression as a late substitute against Norway. Also came on against Slovenia. Good movement off the ball gave him lots of shooting opportunities against Yugoslavia, he stuck two away including the winner. Put through Raul a couple of times - who gleefully returned the compliment against France in the quarter-finals. But there was to be no repeat of the Group stage heroics - every cross or ball was just seemed to miss his outstretched white boots.
