Captain of Real Madrid and a powerhouse centre-back, this could be Hierro's last tournament as a regular in the Spanish side. Certainly if the performance against Norway is repeated - that of the player or that of the team he captains.
Has been with the Bernabeu side for 11 years and a mainstay of the Spanish side for much of that time.
Possesses a fearsome shot from deep and takes almost every free-kick for Spain within 35 yards of goal. An excellent distributor of the ball, his main weakness is his lack of pace.
Played against Slovenia and Spain, not showing his usual composure.
