The much-travelled goalkeeper had played for numerous Romanian clubs, including two spells at Dynamo Bucharest, before moving to Turkey to play with Erzurumspor.
His stay was brief as he returned to his homeland to play for newly promoted AS Astra Ploiesti in 1998 and, a year later, joined Craiova.
The experienced stopper made his international debut in December 1990 at home to San Marino and featured in three matches at the 1994 World Cup finals.
