The diminutive midfielder made his international debut in August 1998 against Norway and has since made the number seven jersey his own.
He started the first eight of Romania's Euro 2000 qualifiers and his classy passing and ability to take on opponents should be a feature of the national side for some time to come.
Came off the bench to score the winner against Greece in Romania's final warm-up match, pressing his claim for a starting role.
Started against the Italians and fitted in well alongside Hagi.
