The young striker's phenomenal 18 goals in 20 matches for Dynamo Bucharest prior to the Romanian winter break was enough for Internazionale to acquire his services. Capped at U16, U18 and U21 levels, he made his full debut in Romania's 2-0 defeat to Greece in March and looks set to lead his country's line long into the future. Started the final warm-up match against Greece but will have been disappointed to see his replacement Petre score the winner. Came on for Hagi agains Germany - those are big boots to fill, but he performed impressively during his brief spell on the field. Filled in for Hagi and played very well, was a constant threat against England. Against the classy Italians he caused so many problems, it will be no surprise if there were a few Italian fans in Milan willing him to score (after all the Milanese aren't renowned for their patriotism).
When Moldovan left and he was coupled with the wiley Ganea he formed a partnership that almost unlocked the Italian defence. If only the Romanians had eleven men, it might have been interesting.
