Once Coventry City's record signing at £3.5million, Moldovan is a regular starter for Romania and scored twice at France 98 - including against England. His early strike against Germany at Euro 2000 continued that run of goals in important matches. He established his pedigree in the Swiss League, heading the scoring charts whilst at Grasshopper Zurich in 1996 and 1997, prompting his move to Highfield Road. But form deserted him in the West Midlands and he quickly moved on in a cut-price deal to Turkey. The powerful, thick-set striker made his international debut in 1993 against Israel and forms a highly effective partnership with Ilie. Romania's sporadic attacks left him with limited service, but still performed well. Celebrating his 50th cap in the quarter-finals against the Italians he ran his heart out up front to no avail. Came close a couple of times and showed why he is regarded as one of the most dangerous strikers on the Mediterranean.
