While first-choice Vitor Baia looked certain to be ruled out after knee surgery, much-travelled veteran Espinha was likely to be his country's first-choice. Baia's recovery should demote him to the bench.
He has been on the international scene since a substitute appearance against Israel two years ago but had to wait until February of this year for his first start against Belgium.
Didn't really have much to do against Germany apart from the odd easy save.
