Yet another of the Under-20 World Championship winning side of 1991, Costa has enjoyed fantastic success at club level with Porto, picking up the Portuguese Cup on the way to Euro 2000.
The national side would not be the same without his steely presence in central defence.
Solid in defence and also looked a threat going forward with some surging runs against England and Romania.
Will be remembered for missing a sitter from about 5 yards out in the Turkey game.
Solid enough game against the pace of Henry and Anelka in the semi-final against France.
