Talented and versatile. Expected to operate in a holding role but he is equally adept at pushing forward. Joined Lazio in 1998 after two seasons with FC Porto and has become an integral member of the Italian champions' set-up since arriving in Rome. Came on as a substitute for Joao Pinto against England and Romania. The Germans didn't know how to contain him and consequently scored three goals which more than doubled his international tally. Kept his place in the side after his hatrick but didn't do much against Turkey. Caused all end of problems on the right-hand side of the Portuguese midfield against France in the semi-final. Has proved in Euro 2000 that he is a world class player.
