The Norwegian captain scored the late penalty which beat Brazil at France '98, but has proved himself a consistent and reliable performer at the top level since breaking into the international side.
He boasts a wealth of club experience - at Molde, Borussia Moenchengladbach, Lierse, Rennes and Hertha Berlin - and returned to Norway from Germany to help Valerenga steer themselves away from trouble at the bottom of the Premier League.
