Having almost single-handedly kept Everton in the top flight the previous year, the experienced stopper suffered a broken ankle early in the 1999/2000 season and, having regained full fitness, found himself frozen out at Goodison Park as Paul Gerrard reclaimed the goalkeeper's jersey.
Loan spells at Glasgow Rangers and Birmingham City in the run-in to the end of the season proved he was back to his best, however, and he should challenge Olsen for a place in Nils Johan Semb's starting line-up.
An outstanding display in the warm-up win over Italy looked to cement his place in the starting XI. That he repeated those feats against Spain - and especially Raul - should come as no surprise.
One of Norway's men of the tournament.
