Updated Sunday July 2, 2000 Give Keegan more time, says Wenger By Joe Melling
Arsene Wenger has urged total backing for Kevin Keegan after re-affirming that he is not interested in being England coach.
The Arsenal manager said: 'It is unfair to be talking about Keegan's future at this stage. I don't want the job. Keegan was appointed only a short time ago and I do not think that the solution is to change the coach every six months when things may have gone badly.
'You have to have confidence in your manager and give him time to do the job. If you change the manager at international level, it takes months for a new person to make his mark.
'England have to be patient. A manager can be only as good as his players. I think the current crop of England players are good but they have not proved it internationally yet.'
Keegan last week said he expected to be sacked if England lost their first World Cup qualifying games against Germany and Finland in October.
