HOENDERLOO, Netherlands, June 28 (Reuters) - Dutch striker Roy Makaay, injured in training on Tuesday, is now out of the whole of Euro 2000 and may need up to two months to recover.
The Deportivo La Coruna striker, who is not part of the Dutch first-choice team, tore a ligament in his right ankle and was due to undergo an operation on Wednesday. He is expected to be out for six to eight weeks.
Makaay looks certain to miss the start of the Spanish season as Deportivo seek to retain the league title they won for the first time in May.
Makaay's departure is the second blow to the Dutch camp in 24 hours after they lost first choice left back Arthur Numan on Tuesday when a scan revealed a tear in a muscle at the bottom of his right foot.
Three other players missed full training on Tuesday because of light injuries - goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, midfielder Phillip Cocu and striker Patrick Kluivert.
But the trio were expected to take part on Wednesday and be fit to play against Italy on Thursday.
