Eurofile: French set to rest stars

World Champions France, already guaranteed a place in the Quarter-finals, are expected to rest several key players for their last Group D match against Holland on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Petit and Bixente Lizarazu are still recovering from knocks, and are likely to be held back. Dutch first choice goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is almost certain to miss the match with a thigh injury. Liverpool's Sander Westerveld is likely to take his place.

•  Christian Ziege could be on his way to Liverpool following a £5million bid from manager Gerard Houllier.

Ziege had been linked with the club before his £4m move to Middlesbrough, but Houllier is confident the German star will want to link up with two of his international team-mates.

Dietmar Hamann was bought from Newcastle last year and defender Markus Babbel arrives next month from Bayern Munich on a free transfer.

•  Belgium coach Robert Waseige has accused his players of taking their preparations for the game against Turkey too lightly. 'There is no way I should have to accept this lack of eagerness,' he stormed.

A draw will ensure that his side advance to the Quarter-finals and Waseige looks set to drop Derby County striker Branko Strupar, who will be replaced by Aston Villa-bound forward Luc Nilis.

•  Sweden goalkeeper Magnus Hedman still believes his side can qualify from Group B, despite claiming just one point from their opening two games.

•  Sweden face Italy in Eindhoven today and the Coventry man said: 'We haven't reached our normal standards but that can soon change.'

Kennet Andersson (ankle), Roland Nilsson (foot) and Teddy Lucic (back) will all miss the game through injury.
