WAVRE, Belgium, June 18 (Reuters) - France striker Nicolas Anelka could miss Wednesday's Euro 2000 Group D match with the Netherlands due to a swollen knee.
France's team doctor Jean Marcel Ferret, said Anelka had missed Saturday's training session due to a painful swollen right knee and confirmed the injury was related to a knee operation the Real Madrid striker underwent in January.
"The knee has reacted because Anelka had to play two games in five days at the top level and his knee was no longer used to that. There is nothing serious and it is too early yet to say if he will be able to play on Wednesday," Ferret told reporters at the French team's training camp.
Should Anelka, who had a light training session on Sunday, miss out there could be a call-up for Monaco striker David Trezeguet, who has been kept on the sidelines by the successful pairing of Anelka with Thierry Henry.
Ferret said defender Bixente Lizarazu has a thigh injury and midfielder Emmanuel Petit is suffering from a sore knee.
Lizarazu is expected to return to full training on Monday while Petit will probably have to wait until Tuesday, but both are expected to be rested by coach Roger Lemerre against the Dutch.
