Trouble breaks out in Eindhoven

EINDHOVEN, Netherlands, June 15 (Reuters) - Trouble broke out between rival fans ahead of the Sweden v Turkey group B Euro 2000 game in the city's main square on Thursday.

A Reuters television reporter said she had seen a policeman led away with blood pouring from a wound.

Several hundred Swedish fans had been in the square some hours ahead of the match drinking and enjoying themselves in the sunshine when about 200 Turkish fans gathered on one corner, beating drums, sounding klaxons and waving flags.

An exchange of missiles followed with fans throwing bottles and cans at each other.

About 30 police in riot gear appeared swiftly on the scene to keep the two sides apart and attempted to clear the square with two and half hours still to go to kickoff time.

A Reuters reporter at the scene said there was an 'uneasy calm.'
