OISTERWIJK, Netherlands, June 12 (Reuters) - Swedish coach Tommy Soderberg said on Monday he will be forced to make at least two changes to his defence for Thursday's Euro 2000 Group B meeting with Turkey in Eindhoven.
Speaking after a long but low-key training session, Soderberg said the red card collected by Bayern Munich defender Patrik Andersson and the concussion of veteran right-back Roland Nilsson in Saturday's opening 2-1 defeat by Belgium had ruled them out.
But he said he would not be changing the shape of his team and expected to announce a side to play in the Swedes' almost traditional 4-4-2 formation.
'There are five or six players who could come in to these positions,' he said. 'We could pull a midfield player back. I won't make any announcements about this until much nearer the game.
'There is no reason for us to change our shape or our style. We know what we must do.'
He added that he was uncertain whether or not to field talented Celtic striker Henrik Larsson from the start of because of doubts over his full recovery from a broken leg.
'He played a few times right at the end of the season in Scotland, but not really enough,' he said. 'This is something different and it is a difficult decision with him.'
Nilsson sat out Monday's training and joined nearly 2,000 spectators at the session, but declined to speak to reporters afterwards.
Asked if he thought that Nilsson's long career as an international player may have been brought to a premature close, Soderberg said: 'I don't know about that. We will see what the doctors have to say and they may let him back in a day or two.'
Joint coach Lars Lagerback said Sweden had a lot of respect for Turkey. 'They showed in the second half they are just as good as Italy, if not better,' he said referring to Sunday's match wich Italy won 2-1.
Both coaches said they would have no problem lifting their squad after their opening defeat. 'They are all good characters and the spirit is very good,' said Soderberg. 'I don't think it is going to be a big problem.'
