Injured Knavs misses Slovenian opener

LJUBLJANA, June 12 (Reuters) - Slovenia defender Aleksander Knavs will miss his team's debut in the European Championship Finals against Yugoslavia on Tuesday because of a thigh injury. The 24-year-old was sidelined after a training session on Sunday.

'He is definitely out for Tuesday and his appearance during the rest of the Championship is also doubtful,' Rok Sinkovc, spokesman for the national soccer association said.

Medical examinations showed the injury might be a result of fatigue after a hard season in wich Knavs won the Austrian league title with Tirol Innsbruck. Slovenia coach Srecko Katanec said he would announce his team only 75 minutes before the game.

Zeljko Milinovic of Austrian LASK Linz is expected to replace Knavs.

Probable team: 12-Mladen Dabanovic, 4-Darko Milanic, 5-Marinko Galic, 3-Zeljko Milinovic, 7-Dzoni Novak, 8-Ales Ceh, 11-Miran Pavlin, 13-Mladen Rudonja, 19-Amir Karic, 10-Zlatko Zahovic, 9-Saso Udovic.
