HOENDERLOO, Netherlands, June 12 (Reuters) - Jaap Stam is likely to be able to play against Denmark in their Euro 2000 match on Friday despite a stitched eyelid, although the Dutch camp will wait until later in the week to be sure.
The cut was the result of a clash of heads with the Czechs' giant forward Jan Koller. On Monday morning, Stam emerged for a light training session with a broad white plaster covering his stitched left eyelid and eyebrow.
'I'll have to check with the medical staff,' coach Frank Rijkaard said, adding he believed Stam would probably be available for Denmark in Rotterdam.
The clash of heads forced Stam from the field during the second half on Sunday and the Dutch staff struggled for over five minutes to patch the wound up. But the defender, who also complained of slight dizziness, was eventually replaced by Bert Konterman as the Czech challenge mounted.
The Dutch co-hosts snatched a 1-0 victory one minute from time with a controversial penalty after the Czechs had twice hit the woodwork.
