AARDENBURG, Belgium, June 10 (Reuters) - Denmark coach Bo Johansson said on Saturday his injury-hit squad were not afraid of world champions France.
Johansson, without a win in six games since qualifying via a
play-off, may be without several players for the Euro 2000 group
D game in Bruges although he will not reveal the extent of his
side's injury problems until just before kick-off.
He said he had great respect for the French because they
were the World Cup holders - but not too much.
'They are the same as us, we are all human,' he told a
news conference. 'We are going to play our normal game against
them.'
Berendt said all 22 members of the squad had trained on
Friday and will train again on Saturday afternoon, behind closed
doors. He said there would be no news on injuries or team
selection until just before the match.
Nine players have missed training this week because of
injuries, but only two remained serious doubts on Friday -
defender Jes Hogh, with a strained Achilles tendon, and forward
Martin Jorgensen with a right thigh injury.
Midfield playmaker Brian Steen Nielsen could also miss out
with an ankle injury and may be replaced by Stig Tofting.
The Danish coach believes his squad may have to draw on
their great strength of character - they travelled to Italy and
won 3-2 to secure their place in the play-offs.
'Psychologically, we are a very strong group,' said squad
spokesman Lars Berendt.
'Look back at previous campaigns. We do not prepare well,
but it makes no difference. In 1992, we lost a lot of matches
and we got a late call - and we won.
'We are used to losing in these kind of games and then
rising for the big occasions.'
Johansson said he had no plans to man-mark any of the French
team, including playmaker Zinedine Zidane.
'We will play our normal game,' he said. 'We will play
zonal marking and we want to give them some problems, just as
many as they may give us.'
