Norway's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left his team's Euro 2000 training camp to be at the birth of his first child in England today but the Manchester United striker is expected back for Tuesday's game against Spain in Rotterdam.
His fiancee, Silje Lyngvaer, had been expected to give birth later next week but Solskjaer was called away early today and arrived at the hospital shortly before a son was delivered.
'We don't know when he will be back but we assume he'll be ready for the Spain game,' said team spokesman Jan Jameson. 'We are not looking for a substitute. He'll be available.'
Norway, who also play Yugoslavia and Slovenia in the group stage, had feared Solskjaer would miss at least one first-round game.
His United team-mate, centre back Henning Berg, is still struggling with a hamstring injury and has been unable to train.
